HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
If you are a dad or if you have ever played the role of a dad, hats off to you today!

Being a dad is an amazing and scary thing.

It bothers me that we have seen it cheapened so much over recent years ... you know that TV dads are a pet peeve of mine ... but there's a more serious issue involved ...

I am not sure where to start with this.

It's easy for dads to mess up their kids I think. From being too forceful and even abusive to ignoring their kids and leaving parenting up to the mom.

But then there's more than that. The big story in the 80s and 90s was "deadbeat dads" -- dads who, after a divorce, didn't pay child support nor play an active role in their childrens' lives.

But that has gotten worse. Now, from stories I have read, there is an increasing trend when a child is born out of wedlock for the dad to just disappear ... and the mom doesn't care nor expect anything different. The child was born out of a quick hook-up and no one expected any ties on the dad's part if conception did occur.

That is scary stuff I cannot begin to understand.

Being a dad is serious business. If you're going to be a father, commit to being a dad and doing your best to do it right.

Like I said, hats off today to those active dads and also to those who play the role of dad in someone's life!

I woke up this morning to hear my girls outside my bedroom window play with their new pet toady frogs. Thats what we call them. Yesterday they had over twenty but sometime during the night most of them escaped. Now they only have three.
I find great joy in just listening and watching them grow and knowing that I have been a part of how they are developing in all areas of their lives. Being a dad is tuff especially to three girls. I have raised a boy up to a young man and watched him move out on his own. He does very well for himself and I'm proud of him.
Words I don't think will help me tell they story of how much I love and care for all of them. I don't know why a father would want to abandon a child but they do it all the time. They bring me so much pleasure.
So Happy fathers day to all the dads. You job as a dad can be tuff but it has it's many rewards.

Yes it's fathers day. It's really not about me but more about my family and what I can do as "dad" to make our family better. This day is not for them to serve me but for me to serve them as the best father I can be.
