IN THE MIDDLE OF ME
Todd Agnew's song, In The Middle of Me, came out in early 2005 as I recall. It's a pretty bouncy tune and, unfortunately for me, that means it can be easy to get caught up in the tune and the bounce and the rhythm and miss the words. I'm not a multi-tasker when it comes to music.
The words, though, are pretty appropriate for me right now. I really like the reference to "spontaneity". Hearing God's voice and following it often involves just that ... step by step ... minute by minute. It can seem like a strange oxymoron ... living for eternity moment by moment but that is what, if we really look at the core of things, can bring great fun -- the spontaneity of being a Christ-follower. Because of a committee I am on, I had the privilege Sunday night of attending our church staff's annual Christmas party. It has become customary for our senior pastor to let some of the gel out of his hair at this annual event and remind us that it's okay to have fun ... and be Christian. I posted recently about being pretty over-stressed in the midst of what should be a joyous season ... I pray that I will find God in the midst of all this craziness ...that I will find joy, peace and spontaniety in all of this insanity ... that I will find more of Him in the middle of me. Because more of Him is better for me.
I need a little more sunshine in the middle of rain
Need a little more joy in the middle of pain
Need a little more color in the middle of this plain jane
Cause I've looked as deep as I can see
And I think I need a little more You in the middle of me
I need a little more patience in the middle of stress
I need a little more beauty in the middle of this mess
Need a little more substance in the middle of this emptiness
I need more of You and less of me
More of You and a little less insanity
More of You and a little less complexity
I've looked as deep as I can see
It seems more of You is better for me
I need a little more rhythm in the middle of this lazy rhyme
Need a little more spontaneity in the middle of this daily grind
Need a little more truth, not music, in this world of lies
