BUICKS AND POPCORN
We drove past a new car dealership today that had a very large (larger than life) model of a cow out front. The cow (which looked rather gender-confused) came on its own trailer with a little fence around it. As soon as I saw it, this overwhelming urge swept over every inch of my body and I couldn't help myself -- I turned to Lisa and said "Honey, we have got to go buy a new Buick this evening!"
I do not claim to be a marketing expert but automobile marketing really bothers me. Well, it bothers me and it doesn't make sense to me.
Have you ever bought a car because you drove by a car lot and all of the car hoods and trunks were open, all of the hazard lights were flashing and there were balloons all over? If you answered "yes" to that question, then I really want you to invite me over to sell you something because I am seriously concerned that you have more money than sense.
If, instead of spending money on hot dogs, popcorn, live radio broadcasts, and those streamer things with plastic triangles all over them, car dealers would spend their money on getting to know me and my family and understand our driving habits and family needs, they would sell a whole lot more cars.
Hmmm ... I guess that was my rant of the day.
