AMAZING
I woke up sitting on an airplane, hearing the following over the loudspeaker: "Would someone please help me remove the insane man from seat 27F and then help me get him off of the plane?" And I was the man in 27F.
Well, it didn't get quite to that point when I flew home this evening from a one-day trip to Baltimore but it was getting close if I hadn't woken up to what was going on around me.
I was basking in the glory of God and the Holy Spirit when our plane landed in Dayton, and, by the time I realized what was going on, most people were up and gathering their belongings and some were even leaving the plane.
Let me explain ...
Sometime next week, I have to give a small talk to parents at Evan's school. Just for the purpose of asking them for a "love offering" for our staff members. Just a short talk but, still, I want the words to be what God wants them to be, not what I have in mind. So, after the plane had taken off from Baltimore, I started praying for God's guidance and direction on what I should say next week. It didn't take me too long and I fell alseep. I tend to fall asleep a lot while I am praying. I could fall asleep while bungee jumping I am pretty sure. It used to bother me that I fall asleep while praying but I have decided that it's quite okay. What better way to go to sleep than while seeking the loving arms and guidance of the One who put me here?
Anyway, when I woke up, I didn't think about what I'd been praying over and instead I got out the book I've been reading and started doing some reading. The plane was close to landing. Almost immediately I heard that soft voice and I knew what God wants to be the "theme" of my talk next week.
The Holy Spirit amazes me. It defies logical explanation. On a theoretical level, it makes no sense but yet, when you experienc God speaking to you through scripture, through the love and actions of other people, or through His own soft, still voice, you cannot help but marvel at His love and His plan. The Holy Spirit at work is obviously way out of our realm of human comprehension yet it is so very real. Basking in that thought is what I was doing when I realized the plane had stopped at the gate and everyone was getting off.
God is amazing.
