SUCCESS
What does it mean to be "successful" today? I am not talking about "big picture success" but instead just basic daily success. The kind where you ask yourself at the end of the day how things went that day.
Does success consist of answering questions, completing tasks, seeing things as black or white, wrong or right?
I know ... it is confusing to figure out where I am going with this ... my apologies ... bear with me ...
I just have been thinking recently that, in this world, we run the risk of being too task-oriented. We keep our Task lists in Outlook and we count success in terms of how well we complete those tasks ... how many we get done ... how quickly ... how many we have yet to do.
And that bothers me.
I think that we need a change of mindset. Success comes in having IMPACT, not in completing tasks. Some tasks are meaningless or can even be detrimental when you weigh them against their impact.
Impact is what changes the world ... the never-ending completion of never-ending tasks doesn't "change" anything. I believe there are far-reaching affects of this ... a focus on completing tasks creates mindless followers ... followers who will call for anything in order to complete the task.
World-changers who pursue impact are always studying ... always thinking ... always seeking.
Think about it.

It's like the whole "Is it important or is it urgent" discussion. It can be both or one or the other.
Something can be urgent but not necessarily important. Completing tasks can help increase your ability to be impactful or it can just be a list of things with checkmarks next to them.
You're so right, though, Todd. Is a successful day one where the checkmarks get put down or the one where you go to bed and know you actually DID something with your day?
