WOULD YOU KNOW MY NAME
I remember tearing up when I heard that Eric Clapton's young son had fallen out of a window and been killed. It's hard to believe it was 15 years ago. I saw the boy's mother interviewed on television tonight. A tragedy like that would be a hard / impossible thing to ever work your way through.
I was a big Clapton fan when I was in college. He was cool. When I heard his son had been killed, I could not imagine the pain that he was feeling. Now that I have a son of my own, it's even harder to imagine what that pain would be like. I remember tearing up later when Clapton released "Tears in Heaven" as a tribute to his son and later still when he won a Grammy for it.
It's still a touching song, in any context.
Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven
Will it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven
Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven
I'll find my way, through night and day
Cause I know I just can't stay
Here in heaven
Time can bring you down
Time can bend your knee
Time can break your heart
Have you begging please
Begging please
Beyond the door
There's peace I'm sure.
And I know there'll be no more...
Tears in heaven
Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven
Will it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven
Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven
